The American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification Course (also called Lifeguard Review) is designed to refresh and validate the skills of currently certified lifeguards. This fast-paced course reviews essential lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid knowledge while ensuring participants meet Red Cross standards to renew their certification for another two years.
Course Overview
Duration: Approximately 9 hours
Format: In-person only
Certification Validity: 2 years
Certifying Body: American Red Cross
Required Certification: Must hold a current or recently expired (within 30 days) Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. If you certification is expired for more than 30 days you must take the full lifeguard course again.
Precourse Requirements
Participants must:
Present a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding certificate (or expired within 30 days)
Successfully complete the Precourse Swim Test:
150-yard continuous swim using front crawl (freestyle) and/or breaststroke followed by 2-minute tread using legs only followed by 50-yard continues swim
Retrieve a 10-lb brick from a depth of 7–10 feet and swim 20 yards with it (within 1 minute, 40 seconds)
Demonstrate core rescue and CPR/First Aid skills during the class
Certification Issued
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:
Lifeguarding Certification with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid, valid for 2 years
What to Bring to Class
Please bring a modest bathing suit, towel, sun screen, dry clothes, snacks, water, and goggles (optional). Also, student will be required to submerge without goggles so consider bringing a second pair of contact lenses if you wear them. Student will be given 1/2 hour for lunch and can either bring lunch, buy lunch at the concession stand, or go off campus to get lunch.
